Deeds are by intentions

On the authority of the Commander of the Believers, Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Deeds are only by intentions, and every person has only what he intended. So whoever's migration was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; and whoever's migration was for some worldly gain to obtain or a woman to marry, his migration is to whatever he migrated for.
