Rule 1: 1. قَرَّرَ أَنْ and other verbs followed by أَنْ
قَرَّرَ to decide is followed by أَنْ and the subjunctive exactly like أَرَادَ and حَاوَلَ: قَرَّرُوا أَنْ يَذْهَبُوا they decided to go. When a preposition belongs to the verb it stays before أَنْ: وَعَدَهُمْ بِأَنْ يَفْعَلَ he promised them to do, وَافَقَ عَلَى أَنْ يُسَافِرَ he agreed to travel. The subject of the subjunctive verb may differ from that of the main verb: قَرَّرُوا أَنْ يَذْهَبَ وَفْدٌ مِنْهُمْ they decided that a delegation of them should go.
